Board of TrusteesNorman S. Coplon, M.D. is the founder of Satellite Dialysis Centers, Inc. (now Satellite Healthcare, Inc.). Dr. Coplon's vision was to create a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research and education in the area of End Stage Renal Disease. Satellite Healthcare, Inc. was founded in August, 1973. Dr. Coplon has actively contributed to the National Kidney Foundation, received numerous honors and awards, including the Martin Wagner Memorial Award. Dr. Coplon was the NKF's "Man Of The Year" in 1992 and has authored numerous articles. Dr. Coplon completed his residency at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, New York and Fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he holds the position of Clinical Professor of Medicine. C. Bradford Jeffries, Esq., is Chairman of the Board for Satellite Healthcare, Inc. Mr. Jeffries received his undergraduate and law degrees from Stanford Law School. He was a senior partner at the prominent San Francisco law firm of Cooley, Godward, Castro, Huddleson & Tatum, where he developed a national reputation as an emerging company and venture capital lawyer. Brad co-founded Sigma Management, a highly respected venture capital group and Venture Investment Associates, which acquired the venture capital portfolio of American Express Company. Brad has been active in the National Kidney Foundation, serving as President in 1970. Brad is a co-founder of Satellite Healthcare, Inc. and has served as counsel and as a director for more than twenty years. Mark Burke, Chief Executive Officer of Satellite Healthcare, has more than 25 years' experience in healthcare, 15 of which have been with Satellite. During his tenure as CEO, Satellite has participated in more than $250 million in dialysis transactions. Mr. Burke has been responsible for launching all of Satellite's major business lines and creating an environment of creativity and collaboration amongst its employees, payers, and Satellite's physician partners. Prior to joining Satellite, he co-founded California Kidney Centers, which owned and operated dialysis facilities throughout Southern California. Mr. Burke currently holds Board positions or advises Satellite Healthcare, the Kidney Care Council, Kidney Care Partners, and Asia Renal Care. Previously, Mr. Burke worked for Baxter Healthcare in sales and marketing management. He earned his undergraduate degree from San Diego State University and did his graduate work in Business Administration at Chapman University. William J. Long heads the TriplePoint Capital’s Buy-Out and Acquisitions Group. Mr. Long brings more than 20 years of broad senior executive experience in investment banking, including leveraged buy-out and structured debt financing, as well as strong operational experience in the health care sector, to TriplePoint Capital. Prior to joining TriplePoint, Mr. Long served at Hybrid Capital, a financial services firm which originated and structured late stage venture debt and leveraged buy-out financing. Prior to that Mr. Long served as Founder and Managing Partner of Agilis Partners, a financial advisory and strategy firm focused on technology, business services, and health care sectors. Mr. Long previously served as a Director at JP Morgan in San Francisco, where he managed equity investments and financial advisory assignments for leading technology and business services clients, and at Hambrecht & Quist, where he worked with a number of internet, technology and health care clients on raising capital and providing advice on mergers and acquisitions. He has also worked as an investment banker at Alex, Brown & Sons and served as a commercial loan officer for Maryland National Bank. Mr. Long’s operational experience includes serving as Vice President of Business Development at Vivra, Inc.; an NYSE traded health care services company, where he also served as a Co-Founder of a cardiology physician practice management company. Prior to Vivra, Mr. Long served as a marketing executive at McGaw, Inc., a diversified hospital supply, pharmaceutical and medical device company, which was a successful leveraged buyout led by DLJ Merchant Banking Partners and ABS Capital. Mr. Long holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Loyola College of Baltimore. Richard C. Waugh, Ph.D., received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado. Richard founded and is President of Arapahoe Chemicals, a chemical manufacturing corporation which was later purchased by Syntex Corporation. In 1972, Richard became Group Vice President, Chemical Manufacturing, Syntex Corporation where he stayed until retirement. Richard has a reputation for his financial intuition and has served on board of directors of several companies, including Allegro Natural Dyes, Chem Design corporation, Zoecon Corp. and United Bank. Richard's affiliation came through his wife's renal failure. He has made substantial contributions to Satellite over the past 17 years. Dick Waugh joined the Board in 1980. Joseph D. Skokan, M.D. has an active Nephrology practice at the Gould Medical Clinic, serving on the Board of the Gould Medical Foundation and various committee positions. Dr. Skokan is active in numerous civic and community affairs, including the National Kidney Foundation, American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association where he served as past President. Dr. Skokan completed his Residency Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He has made substantial contributions to Satellite over the years. Dr. Skokan joined the Board in 1976. Brian J. G. Pereira, MD – President and Chief Executive Officer and President of Advanced Magnetics. Dr. Pereira was appointed CEO in November 2006. He joined the company as President in November 2005. Prior to joining Advanced Magnetics, he was President and CEO of New England Health Care Foundation, a physician's group at Tufts-New England Medical Center from 2001 to 2005, and held various other positions at Tufts-New England Medical Center from 1993 to 2001. He is a Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and at the Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences of Tufts University. A nationally-recognized expert on kidney disease and nephrology, Dr. Pereira has served on the editorial board of twelve scientific journals, is the Editor of the widely read textbook, "Chronic Kidney Disease, Dialysis and Transplantation", and has over 200 scientific papers to his credit. Dr. Pereira served as President of the National Kidney Foundation from 2002 to 2004. He also serves as a director of the National Kidney Foundation, Satellite Health Care Inc. and Wellbound Inc. In addition, Dr. Pereira is a member of the advisory boards of Amgen, Inc. and Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals, Inc. along with several other organizations. Dr. Pereira is a graduate of St. John's Medical College, Bangalore, India and has an MBA from the Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University. Daniel R. Herlinger, FACHE, Mr. Herlinger is currently a senior consultant for Arthur S. Shorr & Associates, Inc., a management firm providing business and strategic planning services in the healthcare field. Prior to this, Mr. Herlinger served as President and CEO of CHW Central Coast, overseeing the operations of four hospitals including St. Francis Medical Center, Marian Medical Center, St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital in California. Before this time, he served as Vice President of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. Mr. Herlinger has been honored with the Regent's Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Golden State Award for Individual Performance Excellence from the California Council for Excellence. He has served on the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award and as the California delegate to the American Hospital Association. He has also been chairman of the Board of the Healthcare Association of Southern California and on the Board of the California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, the California Council for Quality and Service, California Medical Review, Inc. and the Blue Cross Hospital Advisory Committee. He currently serves on the board of the Santa Barbara Regional Health Authority, the Santa Barbara Health Data Exchange, and the Health Services Program Advisory Council at the University of Southern California. Mr. Herlinger is active in a number of community organizations including Rotary International, St. Vincent's Housing Advisory Committee, and public access television. He is a life fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He received his B.S. from Loyola University of Chicago, and his MBA in healthcare administration from The George Washington University.
