Satellite Healthcare Tops among Silicon Valley Employers in Recent Survey
Healthcare Organization Outperforms Local Tech Companies in Workplace Engagement Survey
San Jose, CA - October 17, 2013 — Satellite Healthcare, one of the nation's first and leading not-for-profit providers of kidney dialysis services and a major sponsor of kidney research, was recently rated by its employees as one of Silicon Valley's most engaging places to work, placing Satellite just above many of the area's high-profile tech companies in terms of overall employee engagement.
Each year Satellite Healthcare conducts a third party employee engagement survey to measure how its employees view the company's organizational systems, culture, and managerial behaviors. This year, more than 82 percent of Satellite Healthcare employees reported that they enjoy coming to work, expect to have a long career at the organization, know what to do to advance in their careers, and would refer their organization to a friend as a good place to work. When provided with the same survey questions, employees of Silicon Valley tech companies provided significantly lower ratings.
"This year's survey clearly demonstrates that Satellite's employees enjoy working in an environment that focuses not only on quality patient care, but also makes career development a priority," said Mark Burke, Satellite Healthcare's President and CEO. "We've invested heavily in career advancement and education, primarily through our values ICARE, which stands for Innovation, Community, Accountability, Respect and Excellence, as well as guiding employees through the experience and training they need to advance their career. This effort is clearly paying off."
While the career opportunities and cachet associated with the Silicon Valley tech industry continue to attract job seekers from around the globe, this survey data suggests a local health care organization holds happier employees overall than that of neighboring tech giants. Overall, combined tech industry survey results revealed generally lower employee engagement ratings for companies in both the Internet and software industries when asked to rate on a scale from 1 to 5 their satisfaction with their jobs and the organizations they work for.
The findings are also noteworthy because healthcare industry research, including results from Gallup research in 2012 examining 1.4 million employees across the world, has consistently demonstrated a strong correlation between employee satisfaction and the level of care patients receive.
"Satellite's mission of making life better for people living with kidney disease becomes more easily attainable when we know their caregivers are happy as well," Burke concludes. "We're excited by the great response from our employees and are proud Satellite is a competitive and rewarding place to work."
