Satellite WellBound in Evanston Sends Team to Compete in the
National Kidney Foundation’s “Kidney Walk” in Chicago

June 25, 2008—Mountain View, CA—When Irma Funes, BSN, RN, CNN the Clinical Manager of Satellite WellBound in Evanston, heard that the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois Gift of Life Walk would be held in Chicago on June 29, she immediately began recruiting her medical staff to participate.  A 23-year veteran of the kidney dialysis field, Ms. Funes knows the importance of the NKF’s education and awareness building about kidney disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects more than 26 million Americans, with another 20 million having risk factors for developing the disease.  Satellite WellBound is an innovative service that puts patient wellness and kidney education at the heart of treating Chronic Kidney Disease, presenting patients with all the prevention and treatment options available to them.

“Our education programs are outstanding,” Ms. Funes said. “We do both individual and group training about how to deal with high blood pressure, stress, diet and exercise.  We empower our patients through education so they can choose the therapy that’s best for them, whether it’s home hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis or just adopting a healthier lifestyle to prevent the onset of serious kidney disease.  Once kidney disease is confirmed, our mission is to treat it so that the patient has the highest quality of life possible.”

The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois Gift of Life Walk takes place Sunday, June 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Soldier Field Great Lawn in Chicago and winds along Lake Michigan for 5 kilometers.

“Our people are really looking forward to this,” Ms. Funes said.  “We’ve all signed up for our own company wellness program, so the walk fits into our plan for staying in shape.”
