Satellite Research

Satellite Healthcare’s research partner is dedicated to stimulating, supporting, and carrying out research to improve clinical outcomes for patients with kidney disease.  This includes undertaking various research projects with the goal of uncovering findings that can be directly applied by renal care teams to improve the care provided to patients.  All of these research programs are committed to:

  • Fostering a better understanding of chronic kidney disease
  • Validating the effectiveness of standardized and new treatment options
  • Continually elevating the standards of care for patients with chronic kidney disease
  • Educating physicians so they can determine the best treatment options for each patient

Satellite Research conducts both in-house research and contract research.

In-House Research
A major area of focus of Satellite Research’s in-house clinical research programs is cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is the number-one cause of death in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).  Far more people with CKD die of CVD than dialysis related complications.  The company is currently studying cardiovascular biomarkers in longitudinal studies to evaluate their potential role in identifying at-risk patients and monitoring treatment in CKD patients.

Additionally in-house research programs are underway to evaluate the effects of more frequent dialysis (i.e., more often than the typical three times a week) and home treatment options.  With regard to home therapies, Satellite Research is examining the clinical and quality of life benefits associated with various frequencies of home hemodialysis – including every-other-day home hemodialysis, short daily home hemodialysis, and nocturnal home hemodialysis.

Contract Research
In an effort to lead research into potential advances in the treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, Satellite Research participates in contract research programs with collaborative companies.  These include various clinical trials of drugs, devices, and technologies aimed at improving outcomes, care, and quality of life for patients.
