Satellite Healthcare Supports Kidney Wellness in Chicago
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, June 23, 2009 – Satellite Healthcare, one of the nation’s first and leading providers of kidney dialysis services and a major sponsor of nephrology research, today announced their sponsorship of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Illinois’ Kidney Walk in Chicago. The community event, coined “The Gift of Life Walk,” will be held Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Soldier Field Great Lawn in Chicago, Illinois. Satellite Healthcare’s commitment to kidney health will be demonstrated by an exclusive sponsorship of the event’s Wellness area, as well as strong participation in the Walk itself by staff, family and friends. Satellite Healthcare’s presence at this important event showcases their dedication to the NKF and to the need for public education about kidney disease.
"‘The Gift of Life Walk’ demonstrates the true partnership between patient and healthcare professionals on the journey of kidney disease. The day is a coming together at a fun and healthy event where everyone can leave the burdens of their chronic disease behind and enjoy the camaraderie at an event which brings kidney disease out in the open,” says Willa Lang, chief executive officer of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois. “Satellite Healthcare understands how important it is to show their support of this free event for patients, their families and the healthcare professionals who care for them." Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects more than 26 million Americans, with another 20 million having risk factors for developing the disease. Satellite Healthcare is an innovative organization that puts patient wellness and kidney education at the heart of treating CKD, presenting patients with all the prevention and treatment options available to them.
“As a strong supporter of the NKF walk, I always encourage colleagues and patients to participate,” said Irma Funes, clinical manager at WellBound, a service brand of Satellite Healthcare. “With the number of people affected with Chronic Kidney Disease growing every year, there is a equally growing need for education and information. Our involvement with ‘The Gift of Life Walk’ provides much needed training for the community, and is another example of how WellBound is committed to putting patient needs first and bringing them to a higher level of confidence and wellbeing.”
Steve Baskerville of CBS 2 Chicago and Troi Tyler will serve once again as honorary Walk Co-chairs, generating enthusiasm as the crowd embarks on a leisurely three-mile walk along Lake Michigan. Nutritious refreshments, live entertainment, and an informative health fair will also be provided.
