Satellite Healthcare And Renal Disease Survivor Elias Nasrallah Join Forces To Support The Homeless This Holiday Season
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, November 24, 2009 — Satellite Healthcare, one of the nation 's first and leading providers of kidney dialysis services and a major sponsor of nephrology research, today announced its full support of Renal Disease survivor and chef Elias Nasrallah in his effort to support the San Jose homeless this Thanksgiving holiday.
Elias Nasrallah built a successful career as a chef for the past 20 years. But Nasrallah 's life was turned upside-down five years ago, when he was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The diagnosis irrevocably changed life for Elias, as he started down the path of weekly dialysis treatments to stay alive. Despite the challenges ahead, Elias refuses to let his disability get the best of him.
“Before I got kidney disease, I was a chef with a business and knew nothing about the homeless. But then, all of a sudden because of my illness, I was a blind man on dialysis, and I had to depend on others to care for me. So now, I am paying it forward the best way I know how to "by cooking them a good meal."
ESRD occurs when the kidneys are no longer able to function at a level needed for day-to-day life. It usually occurs when chronic kidney disease has worsened to the point at which kidney function is less than 10% of normal. The National Kidney Foundation estimates that about 350,000 people in the United States have end-stage renal disease and about 67,000 people die of kidney failure every year.
In conjunction with Satellite Healthcare and CityTeam Ministries of San Jose, CA, Elias will cook a Thanksgiving lunch for the homeless in San Jose. This special event will be held November 23rd and 24th at InnVision, located at 358 N Montgomery St. San Jose, CA 95110. Volunteers, supplies and donations are greatly appreciated.
