Simple Ways to Stay Active
We know fitting in a workout routine can often feel impossible, but with a few lifestyle changes, an active lifestyle can be a breeze. Simply adding a bit more daily movement into your life can not only increase your energy levels, but it can make your daily workout seem effortless.
Walking is one of the best basic exercises out there. Plus, it requires no real special equipment other than a comfortable, supportive pair of shoes.
Here are just a few examples of how to add more walking into your life:
Park a little farther from your destination.
Take the stairs for one floor instead of the elevator.
Fit in 10 to 15 minutes of walking each day.
Start Standing More
If you really think about it, most of your day is spent sitting. To keep your energy high, here are a few tips to sit less and standing more.
Stand or gently walk around the lobby while your waiting for your dialysis treatment to begin.
Instead of meeting a friend for coffee, get your coffee to go and chat while you stroll.
Make phone calls while standing and walking around the room.
To set yourself up for success, find a friend or family member to help you stick to your activity goals. Lay out your workout or walking clothes the night before, and try to work in a little movement each hour.
Before starting any new exercise program, check in with your doctor and get his/her ideas on how you can fit more physical activity into your life.
