How to Get a Good Night's Sleep
Those who have chronic kidney disease (CKD) or are on dialysis might know
hard it is to get a good night's sleep; however, the importance of
a healthy sleep schedule cannot be stressed enough.
As the most common sleep disorder, insomnia has been
recently linked to kidney function decline and kidney failure. Fortunately, there are
many tricks you can use to work towards a
solid night's sleep.
Keep a Consistent Sleep Schedule
Taking long naps during the day can actually harm your quality of sleep at night. For best rest, you should wake up and go to bed at the same time each day. When you alter your sleep times, you mess with your levels of melatonin, which is what signals your brain to rest.
Cut Screen Time
Watching TV, being on a tablet, or staring at your cell phone is not only stimulating — it’s tricking your brain into thinking that it’s daytime. Try limiting your screen time to 2 hours before bedtime each night.
Get Active
Adding in a daily walk or regular exercise routine can affect your overall health and limit the amount of time it takes you to fall asleep. Just be sure that your workout is earlier in the day and not right before you lay down to sleep.
Talk to Your Doctor
If you’ve tried everything and still can’t seem to get a full
night’s sleep, it’s time to consult your doctor to discuss
different supplements or potential sleep disorders.
