May 15, 2019

Whether you just started your dialysis journey or you’ve been on it for a while, there will always be good days and bad, but we want to ensure your good days outweigh the bad.

We know the change in diet, lifestyle, and “kidney brain” can be an adjustment, but the more you treat your mental health, the better the whole process will be. So here are five simple ways to work on your mental health, today!

1. Plan Family Activities

Whether this is with your family or furry pet, spending time with the ones you love can increase happiness, mood and lead to a longer life, too!

2. Get 15 minutes of Sunshine

Don’t forget the sunscreen, though! A little vitamin D, actually about 15 minutes of it is known to help boost your mood.

3. Explore Your Town

Find a new way to get your daily walk in, and explore your surroundings. There is nothing wrong with being a tourist in your town; you might even discover something new.

4. Stay Inside The Lines

Coloring isn’t just for kids anymore! Adult coloring books have increased in popularity, and with a variety of topics, you can spend hours just relaxing and creating your masterpiece. Also, it’s an easy activity to bring to your treatments, too.

5. Take Time to Laugh

Laughing can relax you, increase your happiness, and is something we strongly advise! Our Laugh Out Loud Hemodialysis program Incorporates forced laughter, meditation, activity, and deep breathing — all while improving your mood and decreasing your anxiety, too.
