In a Time of Unrest
Dear Satellite Healthcare Employees and Physicians,
I am heartbroken by what is happening in this country. I suspect that you are, too.
While these devastating incidents are not new, there is something unique about what is happening in this moment. For the past 14 weeks, we have been in the throes of managing a historic public health crisis that has adversely affected us all physically, emotionally and financially—particularly the African American community. This pandemic comes at a time of several recent injustices and the senseless loss of life – Breonna Taylor, Louisville; Ahmaud Arbery, South Georgia; and most recently George Floyd, Minneapolis. I reference them by name because their lives matter and all lives are sacred.
This physical mourning, this moving expression of distress and determination for social justice, is important to both demanding action and healing. Violence is the voice of the unheard. It is self-defeating and socially destructive. Peacefully and safely, we need to demand for better — a nation with acceptance and opportunities for all regardless of race, creed or color.
It helps to remember there are far more things that unite us than divide us. As you go about your daily activities, please stay safe, healthy and know that we will get through this, together.
